We were sent the link below last night. It is an open letter to Alex Salmond from a long time mate he grew up with and who puts his name to it – who did and still does believe in Scottish independence but came to recoil completely from the SNP – on good grounds, which he lays out.
He signs off by saying that the reasons for his disenchantment with what he, like For Argyll, sees as a party with an unpleasantly dishonest, totalitarian and bullying character has led him to distribute Tactical Voting leaflets in Gordon. This is the constituency in which Mr Salmond intends to be elected to Westminster in a week’s time.
It is an eloquent and instructive letter and echoes the reasons for our own departure from the SNP – and in our case, further – to reject independence as well: because it will be led and shaped by a political culture from which anyone with a care for democracy would have to walk away.
